People & Culture

We have some of the best and brightest working on our site, and we are committed to fostering a culture of growth, diversity, and equality.

Delivering safe operations is core to our values.  Safety is the number one priority on our company scorecard, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to keeping our people safe.

We are equally focused on embedding a high-performance workplace culture built around diversity of outlook and experience.  We have a supportive team environment where all colleagues are given the support they need to thrive.

Supporting our workforce through transition

Our transition from the refinery to Channel Infrastructure has involved significant change for our workforce. We are focused on playing our role in a just transition, by supporting our workforce with retraining and finding new jobs, looking for growth opportunities at our site which can create new jobs and working with our local community to attract new opportunities to the Northland region.

As we looked to prepare for our transition, we used the time to assist our people to consider and prepare for their future employment, with a broad range of training and development programs available to all staff.  We’ve also been working alongside other employers across Northland, in oil and gas in Australia, and around New Zealand, to job-match the skills of our people with vacancies elsewhere.

We know we have some of the best talent in the region working on our site, and we are committed to supporting our team into new jobs, or training opportunities at the right time, and with the right upskilling opportunities, after we have safely shutdown and decommissioned the refinery.

Celebrating diversity

Diversity and inclusion are important aspects of our business culture at Channel Infrastructure – we value diverse backgrounds and experience as a source of strength.

Channel Infrastructure proudly has a Diversity and Inclusion Policy with four core diversity principles:

  • Diversity will be pervasive and evident throughout all levels of the organisation,
  • We will gain and retain top talent by attracting a diverse candidate pool,
  • Our decision making will be enhanced by the richness of the experiences and backgrounds of our people,
  • The way we lead and the way we behave will demonstrate the value we place on diversity.

These diversity principles manifest through our recruitment, talent management, inclusive communication, performance management, corporate culture programmes, and succession planning.
